Who is Matilda and why is she dancing?
Waltzing Matilda is a popular Australian folk song about a wandering man who, while camping by a watering hole, captures a sheep that happens to belong to a landowner. The landowner confronts him with the police along, but the wanderer refuses to be caught and instead drowns himself in said watering hole.
Hey, we didn't say it was an uplifting tune, but it certainly is catchy. The words were written by Banjo Paterson, a famous Australian poet, in 1895, and it remains well known today. Click here to read the silly-sounding lyrics (music coming soon).
What exactly are "Australian pastries"?
Australia has several sweet treats that are hard to find in the United States (until now!). Most well-known is the Pavlova, a very light and refreshing dessert named after the ballerina. Australia and New Zealand debate where this delicacy was first invented, but it's a traditional treat throughout the region today.
Other specialities include lamingtons, caramel slices, vanilla slices, mud cake, ANZAC biscuits (a cookie named for the Australia New Zealand Army Corps), scones, 100s & 1000s biscuits, and just about anything that hails from Down Under.
Is paying online safe?
Waltzing Matilda's NYC now accepts online payments! We've partnered with PayPal to make your shopping experience as efficient and safe as possible.
If you don't have a PayPal account, don't fret. You don't even need one to make a purchase. Plus, we still accept cash, cashier's checks, and personal checks at the time of delivery, or you can pay by credit card over the phone. For large orders, we require a partial deposit at the time of ordering.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require 24 hours cancellation for most orders. For large orders, we'll inform you at the time the order is placed if the cancellation period will be longer.
Where do you deliver? Where can I pick up?
Currently we deliver within Manhattan. If you'd like delivery outside of the island, please contact us and we'll let you know if we're able to accommodate. Deliver prices are:
Orders up to $49.99: $15
Orders over $50.00: Free
We have pickup locations in Hell's Kitchen and in the Financial District. Contact us for details.
What about allergies and other restrictions?
All of our pastries are made-to-order, so if you have any dietary restrictions, just let us know. We do cook in a kitchen that processes nuts, dairy, eggs, and soy, so keep that in mind. If you have any questions about our ingredients or our baking processes, just ask!
